YouTube Censors Exorcism Video for ‘Hate Speech’

Do YouTube’s hate speech policies try to protect even demonic entities?

A video produced by The Catholic Talk Show entitled, “7 Secrets Catholic Exorcists Want You to Know,” was deleted by YouTube for violating hate speech rules. According to a screenshot shared by the Catholic Talk Show’s official Twitter account, the video was reviewed by YouTube’s team. The company told the show, “We think it violates our hate speech policy.”

The episode focused on “exorcism, demons, blessed and cursed items, and other secrets that Exorcists want everyone to know.”

YouTube’s hate speech policy states, “We remove content promoting violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on any of the following attributes: age, caste, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, nationality, race, immigration status, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, victims of a major violent event and their kin, veteran status.”

Some other actions that could get a video deleted included, “Conspiracy theories saying individuals or groups are evil, corrupt, or malicious based on any of the attributes noted above.” Perhaps labeling demons as evil fell under this category.

The guest on the episode, author Charles Fraune, was also just suspended from Twitter according to his blog. Fraune wrote, “The content of the show was all geared toward helping people understand what demons are up to so that we may all be liberated from their influence. The only ‘persons’ who should have been offended by the show were the demons.” According to the author, Twitter suspended the account for “unusual activity.”

The Catholic Talk Show tweeted, “Charles Fraune, who appeared on our recent episode on Exorcism which was labeled ‘Hate Speech’ by YouTube has now gotten his Twitter account suspended?!? I guess our episode and his book has upset ‘somebody’… or ‘something.’”
