The Only Time a King Fought His Own Trial by Combat
In the books, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen did something no other ruling Westerosi king is known to have done — he fought his own trial by combat. In 84 AC, after Ser Braxton Beesbury was accused of seducing his daughter Saera, the Old King refused to name a champion. Instead, he stepped into the yard himself, wielding the Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre, and struck Braxton down. It remains the only recorded time a king personally fought and won a trial by combat in Westerosi history.
