Since China lifted its strict Covid control measures in December 2022, Buddhist and Taoist temples across the country have seen a surge in the number of young visitors, who come to pray for dream school admissions and career advancements. Data from China’s biggest online travel platform Trip.com showed bookings for temple visits in February 2023 have more than tripled from the previous year, with nearly half of the bookings made by young people. The Post visited a prominent Buddhist temple in Beijing to find out the reason behind the growing popularity of temples among young people.
