Legendary author and journalist Tom Wolfe died on Monday in Manhattan. He was 88 years old. The world has lost a singular writing talent—but that’s not all there was to Wolfe. He was a man who understood the power of style, not just as a means of self presentation but self mythologizing. In the collective consciousness, he fashioned himself into the writer in the white suit. And he wore it exceptionally well. Here, we look back at his distinctive style through the years.
