SpaceX Dragon To Launch 1st Spacewalk While Boeing Starliner Astronauts Stranded…
While Boeing’s clown is facing one of the largest setbacks in its spaceflight, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft is soaring ahead with its first commercial spacewalk mission.
Specifically, on July 12, the historic and most-anticipated Polaris Dawn is going to happen, marking the great leap in human spaceflight, beyond what we did in Nasa’s Gemini 11 in 1966.
In today’s episode of Techmap, we will find out how close SpaceX is to the incredibly exciting launch, the mission’s meaning to humanity, and more.
This will be SpaceX’s fourteenth crude flight to space so far and the successor of Inspiration 4, the first SpaceX all-civilian mission to orbit in September 2021.

Can’t help but mention, that there are some similarities between Inspiration 4 and Polaris Dawn, such as the funder and commander for both is billionaire Isaacman, Polaris also uses SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Resilience that performed in Inspiration 4. However, unlike Inspiration 4 which only lasted 2 days and 23 hours and placed the Dragon capsule into low Earth orbit, Polaris’s first of three missions will require much more. During the five-day journey, the crew will attempt the first-ever all-civilian spacewalk outside the ship. They will conduct 40 experiments related to new technologies aboard Crew Dragon, including SpaceX’s new extravehicular activity spacesuits and the Starlink inter-satellite laser communication system. This aims to help understand the effects of spaceflight and radiation on humans.

The destination is no longer LEO, instead, deeper into the cosmos (870 miles, to be exact) than any other since the Gemini 11 took off in 1966.
Due to the complications of the mission as well as being the first try, the team faced tons of challenges during their preparation phase. This directly pushed the original launch date as early as late 2022 back several times.
This involves several technologies necessary for the mission and also part of the program, including extravehicular activity (EVA) spacesuits for private astronauts, intersatellite laser communication links between the Dragon spacecraft and the Starlink constellation, and some accommodation for the lack of an airlock in the legacy Dragon capsule design.
