The FCC approves Google’s (GOOG,GOOGL) request to use part of the Pacific Light Cable Network System after U.S. regulators had blocked its use.

Google can operate a portion of the undersea telecommunications cable that runs from the U.S. and Taiwan but has to avoid the link to Hong Kong.

The tech giant had warned that other methods of carrying traffic would come at much higher costs.

The FCC approved the operations for the next six months, pending a final license application disposition.
